Hey Sailors!

It's time again for our Monterey Cruise!  It is the perfect time of year to visit Monterey.  The weather typically is very nice, the winds are usually decent but not too much, and it’s a lot less crowded compared to summertime.  Also, in previous years we have seen whales, dolphins, otters, and sea lions, which is really cool!

The Monterey Municipal Marina is very conveniently located in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the largest Marine Sanctuary in the world.  It has all you could want or expect:  friendly harbor masters, clean restrooms, and nice showers.  The Marina is within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, and downtown.  If you don’t feel like walking, a free trolley runs every 10-15 minutes between downtown and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  So, in addition to the great sailing, there are lots of fun things to do and see in and around the city of Monterey.  There are also many great places to eat and drink.

I spoke with the Harbor Master (250 Figueroa Street, Monterey, CA, 831/646-3950 (Day) and 831/594-7760 (Evenings):

  • They don't accept reservations, but said we should have no trouble getting a slip.
  • There are no launch fees.
  • The slip for a Catalina 22 is about $25/night.  Parking is additional.
  • Register with the marina office when you arrive.  You will need your boat registration number and MC/VISA card.
  • There are a limited number of pull-thru parking spots available.  They are only available to trailers from 2 am - 9 am, after 9 am anyone can use these parking spots.  They cautioned me that parking might be limited due to the holiday weekend.
